This has to be my greatest internet experience! To fine this website is wonderful. I served with Scarface 1986-1991, went off to Mag-42, Det-C and finally back to Scarface (Jan-July) 1995. There is no doubt that many of the greatest times of my life were experienced while with Scarface. I worked in Flight Line and QA. There were so many great Marines that passed through and I am sure there are now. I am very proud to say that I was and will always be a Scarface Marine. There were highs and lows, great deployments and the Gulf war. I now relish the experiences. I couldn't get aviation out of my blood when I left the Corps. I'm now an Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor with UPS in Louisville, KY. I been with UPS since 1996. I have lost contact with just about everyone that I served with.
What a tragedy but if anyone remembers me SSGT Bonner, I sure would love to hear from you. Special thanks to the people responsible for this site and a salute to Scarface Marines past and present.

Gents for one who served in every HML/HMLA squadron in MAG-39, it's great to see this site and
remember! My time in Scarface (1986) was short due to the needs of HMA 169 needing a Gunny to run the F/L. Down the street we accepted the first
"Whiskeys" and went composite at the same time. My best memories will always be training new Crew Chiefs (not to mention an LT or two). NVGs all night in Yuma a few nights every week!

Looking for Cobra pilots who might recall gunship escort of Sea Knights on March 6, 1970 when a CIDG/Special Forces group of about 300 men were taken from Thuong Duc 17 clicks southwest to My Hiep in the Que Sons along the Cai River...a CH46 was shot down and 20 CIDGs were WIA, a Marine crewman was KIA and a CIDG. And again after their op concluded upon picking them up on March 11, 1970 when Cobra pilot Maj. Jim Rider was shot down and his copilot, 1stLt. Denny Grace was killed. I'm putting that information in a book on the attempt to retrieve the bodies of 2 Marine recon officers who fell to their deaths off snapped cable hoist lines while dangling from a CH 46 on March 2. I have been at this site at least once a week for the past year or so trying to find the right words to say. I was with Scarface from '93 to '97 and had many "memorable" moments with alot of people from the old gang. I had tried to express to my wife the amount of
camaraderie that we shared, but I was unable to do so. She was on the PC last night and saw this site in my favorites, an hour later she came to me almost in tears finally able to understand what we went through together. Now, I know I wasn't the most liked Marine in the unit, but I had a great experience in my time in the Corps and especially in Scarface. My wife finally understands the reason I now have my home office set up the way I do, with stars and stripes and all of my Scarface memorabilia hanging up on the wall. Thanks to all who helped me grow into the man I am today, and Semper Fi, Dan "Catfish" Lawrence. If you'd like to contact me shoot me off an email at

It was a long 5 day mission for us when we decided to call in for an exfil, It was the Marines that brought us out that day with rope (McQuire Rig) to be exact, we were in Laos and had a rough time ,being tracked my the enemy and dogs etc,Finnaly on the last day my one zero called for and extraction, he blew a large tree than about 5 min later came two chopprs with rope , first went three of our counter part than my one zero another counter part and my self were lifted out , but while in flight I was loosing my sit for this was my first time riding a McQuire rig and was falling so Pat my 1-0 told them to land as soon as possible , we were in tha Ashaw Valley but landed anyway. Our team wasn't the usual american team , we were NVA, that it self might have blown the cews mind but I guess that they were briefed on what to expect. I would like to thank the crew for that day but don't remember what unit they were from , only know that they were Marines. This I was told by my 1-0 yeras later, any of you remember , I sure would like to thank you for a job well done!!! Nice website - whoever keeps this maintained is doing a great job!
I was an Army Cobra Pilot on your mission of 9 Aug 69, where you lost 2 crew members.
It was my first CCN mission, I was co-pilot for CWO Jim Dailey. I remember Cpt An hovering over the downed bird,
which was completely submerged, while the small arms were pouring into the right side of the aircraft.
God bless you all for your service.

My brother was in the battle at Con Thien in September of 1967. He was one of eight who came home alive out of his unit. He would not have made it with out air support. Thank You

This is a great marine page. I was with the Kingsmen helicopter company at Camp Eagle, 101st Airmobile. Our unit flew many missions in Quang Tri Province. Many of them were resupply missions for the Marine units. In March of 1969 my helicopter stayed for a week with the Marines flying resupply. We stayed in a bunker during the bad weather. 0200 hrs. we were woke up by outgoing fire missions. Welcome home to all of you. Frank Tresenrider

A great tribute!!

mountain air facility a Danang
in 1967/1969 they had a red set of orders from gen. Walt six or seven Koreans and two or three navy people who stayed at one of
Quonset huts at the back of the hospital we would get order to pick them up, they would give us (long distance) long/lat
load up lots of antenna, radio, high tech stuff and the Koreans carried enough
ammo ect. to start another war we were told not to ask any thing or just deliver them, the one who must of been in charge was called Mr. AJ by the

took them to top of co/rock one night they were nuts
would like to see if any of them made it

Just found the website with the reunion letter. Guess I was with the Old Corps... a gunship pilot at Phu Bai '68-'69, as Scarface 33. Really enjoyed the recollections, photos and memories.
Bob Knapp are you out there? (Crew Chief VT-25)

I saw a lot of familiar faces and remembered again how scared I was then and how glad I was to fly along side of men like these. I was a holdover from VMO-2 when HML-367 came down to MMAF to become the first pure cobra squadron. I helped train the scarface lieutenants who would become the first scarface HAC's in 1970. I was Hostage Rat and then Scarface 36. It was a long time ago.

This is great. I was Scarface 22 in 68-69. If one of the momma-sans was rating the web-site, I am sure they would say, "this site is #1, not #10".
I was thinking the other day how great it would be to see some of the men from 367. Hopefully, I now have that link.
Keep up the great work.

This is a great site and tells a lot about how Vietnam soldiers felt during the
war. This site must bring back a lot of memories.

Hello again. Doug Simpson here, 367 RVN, 1970. Changed my email address a lot, so wanted to update all those who wondered where I went. Had a call from a guy in 463 I flew with talking about the reunion of both squadrons in
Pensacola this coming October. I'm going to try to make this event. Drop me a note at
dougs@capitolproject.com .
Regards to all my friends from Scarface. Semper Fi.

It is wonderful to see how Scarface has developed through the years!
My husband is a SSgt currently with Scarface (second time around) and we are gearing for deployment here in June.
Thanks for the history!

Hi,
I served and lived in the Duc Duc Resettlement village from April 1970 to August 1970. I belonged to the last (Combined Action Program) Cap Team to live in the village before it was slaughtered.
I had many Vietnamese friends in the village. It hurts to hear what happened to them. Please visit our website at: http://www.CapVeterans.com Our website has pictures of those you tried to save. It also has maps of the area.

Does anyone have any more information about the slaughter? I want to build a website to them.
Thank You!!

Sir,
If it pleases you to do so, I would refer you to the following link---http://www.usmc.mil/genbios2.nsf/biographies/5436BC9815DDE57585256AC40047F182?opendocument---
This is another of Scarface's own who has achieved the rank of Brigadier General in the USMC. I served with BGen Jensen in Scarface when he was the XO then CO of the squadron in '92-,93. He is a fine Marine and one of those I most admired. I would love to see him posted on this site. Should the link fail, I found his official biography through a HQ Marine Corps link. Thank you and Semper Fi.

I'm a nanny for one of the first graders from the new venture field trip. I wanted to thank you for taking time out for us. You guys were great, visiting the Air station was the highlight of the
field trip. The boy I take care of is still talking about the Huey and Cobra. Thanks again,

A great site worthy of Scarface. It should be noted that Scarface takes care of its own. About a year ago I was in charge of getting a helo flyover for our 4th of July parade. For once in my life I was early and got a "good to go" six months prior to the date from the Army that they'd do the flyover. Two weeks prior to the
event, after I assured all hands there'd be a flyover, the doggies wussed out. I called Willow Grove and they told me that I was probably too late to get any assets but call the Johnstown Det. and see what happens. I relayed my tale of woe, invoked the name of Scarface and was told "We can't let an old Scarfacer down" and they sure didn't. It was an excellent display of airmanship and was very much appreciated.
